Our newly built lodge is set in a sheltered bay on what is locally described as the “beach of beaches”. The sand is white, the water warm and the palms shady - a perfect tropical beach destination.
Our 10 acre former coconut plantation, has only 7 rooms, including Africa's first superadobe eco-room - constructed using NASA building technology prepared for moon landings. All our rooms are a few metres from the swimming safe, warm Indian Ocean and are designed to maximise the warm, tropical breeze that blows on the beach for 22 hours per day.
We are situated in southern Tanzania, please see this Map of Kilwa for a better idea of where we are.
We work closely with the Kilwa people in a variety of community projects, including a scientific research station and promotion of ancient Kilwa - the ruins!
We are halfway between Dar-Es-Salaam and Lindi, perfect if you are travelling between Tanzania and Mozambique.

Our Beach Lodge in Kilwa

Kilwa's best beach hotel
Welcome to Kilwa Beach Lodge.
Kilwa Masoko our local town is known as the gateway to the south and is a perfect base for exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of the Ruins of Kilwa Kisiwani (aka Kilwa Ruins), one of Tanzania's most important archaeological sites and also the Selous Game Reserve.
The Kilwa Ruins are the ruins of palaces and mansions belonging to Arabic gold dealers and slave traders that ruled the east African costline from 800 - 1500. These members of the Kilwa sultanate developed a complex society including currency and Kilwa coins while Europe was still embroiled in the dark ages.
A stay at our Kilwa hotel can be combined perfectly with a Selous safari and we are in fact the closest beach resort to the Selous.
Our location on a tropical beach allows us to offer a variety of water and marine activities including hippo trips, snorkeling, fishing (both artisanal and deep-sea), diving (by end 2013) and through our community work and project we have constructed a Marine Biology Research Station on site.
Fish caught within the last few hours are the mainstay of our menu, supplemented with tender squid, king-prawns, lobster and crab all prepared by our head chef, Amiri, and his team.
We source all of our fish and seafood, fresh from fishermen plying their trade at the fishing village a few hundred metres along the beach from our lodge.
To find out more about our beach lodge and the surrounding areas and what they have to offer as a holiday destination; please browse our website.
Kilwa is becoming a resort comparable with the beach holiday destinations of Zanzibar, Mafia and Pemba Islands. The area is also a perfect combination to use with safaris in Tanzania including the the Serengetti and Ngorongoro crater.
